Its usual name in English is ''jay'' (pronounced ), with a now-uncommon variant ''jy'' .When used in the International Phonetic Alphabet for the voiced palatal approximant (the sound of "y" in "yes") it may be called ''yod'' or ''jod'' (pronounced or ).
