Summary:Background: Violence against children in schools continues to increase. Children get in school violence in various forms. Students at high school and vocational school age experience changes physically, psychologically, and socially. Those can lead to the emergence of violent behavior. High school's teaching methods are more theoretical than vocational school. While vocational school practices more that prioritizes psychomotor aspects. Objective: To determine the comparison of characteristics of violence against children in school in high school and vocational school in Tegal. Methods: This study used a descriptive method with cross sectional design. Subjects were high school and vocational students of XIth grade in Tegal. The number of samples was 184 high school respondents and 152 respondents from vocational school. The sampling technique used purposive random sampling. Data was collected by questionnaire that was distributed directly to the respondents. Results: In high school, as much as 94% respondents said they had experienced violence at school.High school respondents experienced physical violence by 69% with the moderate category 76%, psychological violence by 83% with the moderate category 63%, sexual assault by 14% with the moderate category 65%, and social violence by 44% with moderate category 92%. At vocational school, as much as 88% respondents said they had experienced violence at school. Vocational school respondents experienced physical violence by 71% with the moderate category 54%, psychological violence by 75% with the moderate category 52%, sexual violence by 11% with moderate category 71%, and social violence by 37% with the moderate category 80%. Conclusions: Violence against children in high school and vocational school in Tegal is still a lot going on. Vocational school more experienced violence in school than high school. There is no difference between violence in high school and vocational school. Psychological violence is violence that is most common in high school and vocational school.
