The increase in the elderly causes a shift in the epidemiology of the disease towards degenerative and neuropsychiatric disease. Most frequent psychiatric disorder that found in the elderly is depression. It is estimated that by 2020, depression will be the second most burdensome diseases in the world. Various studies have shown that exercise is able to reduce the level of depression. However, research on the elderly population has not shown consistent results. Therefore, a research is required to support the results of previous studies. Aim: This study aimed to determine the effect of elderly-gymnastics on Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) score Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental with one group pretest and post test design. The treatment is elderly-gymnastics performed twice a week for nine weeks. The output was GDS scores measured using GDS-Short form questionnaire. Results: At the initial examination, the GDS score mean of subjects were 3.58±1.72. After elderly-gymnastics treatmen, GDS score mean became 2.83±1.49. There was a significant decrease in GDS scores before and after treatment by 0.75 ±1.45 point (p = 0.02). Conclusions: There were significant differences between GDS scores before and after elderly-gymnastics treatment. GDS scores after elderly-gymnastics treatment lower than GDS scores before treatment. Keywords: gymnastics, depression, GDS, elderly
