HUBUNGAN SENSIBILITAS KORNEA DENGAN KADAR HBA1C PADA PASIEN DIABETES MELITUS
Diabetes Mellitus which happened in the eye and it could lead to several problems including decreased blinking reflex, slowed wound healing, decreased quantity and quality of tear film, infections, and corneal damage. Those complications were associated with the level of HbA1c in DM patients. To the...

520 | |a Diabetes Mellitus which happened in the eye and it could lead to several problems including decreased blinking reflex, slowed wound healing, decreased quantity and quality of tear film, infections, and corneal damage. Those complications were associated with the level of HbA1c in DM patients. To thesedays in Indonesia, only a very few study were found in addressing the problem. Aim: To know the relationship between corneal sensibility and HbA1c level of DM patients in RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang Methods: This study is an analytic observational, cross-sectional design, which used both the data from patients' medical record and direct corneal examination. Corneal sensibility was tested using Cochet-Bonnet aesthesiometer. Spearman's rho was chosen for statistical analysis. Results: 31 DM patients consisting of 14 males and 17 females who previously already had their HbA1c level tested in medical records, were put to test their corneal sensibility. Better corneal sensibility (5,88 cm) was found in the group of patients with HbA1c level < 6,5% while those with HbA1c level ≥ 6,5% tend to show worse (4,65 cm), even decreasing, corneal sensibility. There was statistically correlation (p<0,001) between corneal sensibility and HbA1c level in DM patients. Conclusion: There was correlation between the decrease of corneal sensibility and the increase HbA1c level in DM patients. Keywords: corneal sensibility, diabetes mellitus, HbA1c | ||
