Description
Summary:Background: Tooth extraction should be done in certain indications because tooth extraction is irreversible. After tooth extraction, wound healing process at the site of tooth extraction, which is influenced by numerous factors, will soon take place. Some factors might cause both local and systemic complications, which can be prevented by using antiseptic mouthwash such as chlorhexidine. Aim: Knowing the effect of chlorhexidine mouthwash usage to the incidence of complications in wound healing process after tooth extraction. Methods: This is an experimental study with post-test only control group design. The samples are 26 patients undergoing tooth extraction, who were divided into two groups, namely treatment group who received chlorhexidine mouthwash and control group who received saline mouthwash. Consecutive sampling method is used based on the arrival of patients who performed tooth extractions in Dental Clinic Dr. Kariadi Hospital Semarang and partner clinics. The analysis used Fisher-Exact test. Result: Statistically, there was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between treatment group and control group (p = 0,5). Clinically, there was a difference between treatment and control group; there were two incidence of complication in control group while in treatment group there was none. Conclusion: Chlorhexidine mouthwash usage has the potency to suppress the incidence of complications after tooth extraction clinically.
