Aim: To compare cognitive function between diabetic and non-diabetic subject in elderly hypertensive patients. Method: This research was an observational study using cross sectional design on outpatient of geriatric and internal medicine clinic of RS. Dr. Kariadi Semarang from March until May 2016. Subjects were beyond 60 years old and had hypertension diagnosis on their medical records (n=30). Subjects were divided by 2 groups based on their diabetic status. Hypertension and diabetes mellitus information was obtained from medical record. Cognitive function was measured by Montreal Cognitive Assessment Indonesian version (MoCA-Ina). Data was analyzed using independent T test. Result: All 30 subjects were included (male: 19, female: 11) and their MoCA scores were analyzed. Mean score of non-diabetic group was 23,80±2,27 whereas mean score of diabetic group was 21,80±2,24 and statistically significant (p=0,022). Cognitive domain that was impaired on diabetic group was delayed recall (p=0,009) compared to nondiabetic group. All cognitive domains were better on non-diabetic group compared to diabetic group. Conclusion: Diabetes mellitus is a worsening factor for cognitive function in elderly hypertensive patients, especially for delayed recall domain.
