Description
Summary:Background: Indonesia's population is predicted to increase because of Total Fertility Rate (TFR) as 2.6 children in each Indonesia's women. Contraceptive Prevalence Rate/ CPR which is one of TFR factors has not reached MDG's targets in 2015. The increase in service of Communication, Information, and Education (IEC) such as counseling can be the solution to increase Keluarga Berencana (KB) membership and solve population problem. Conseling by lecture (unimodal) and video (multimodal) will increase the different knowledge and memory retention. Proper media to increase knowledge and memory retention of KB is needed to prevent Indonesia's population explosion. Aim: To prove the difference of memory retention post Keluarga Berencana (KB) counseling with lectures and video in productive-age women. Methods: Quasi-experimental research with two group pre and post test design in productive-age women using purposive sampling. Respondents were given pretest then counseling by lecture in first group and counseling by video in second group, then given post test 1. 7 days later, respondents were given post test 2. Differences between pretest and post test 1 were knowledge, while differences between post test 1 and post test 2 were memory retention which were analyzed by T dependent test, Wilcoxon test, T independent test, Mann-Whitney test, and Chi-Square test. Results: There are significant increment of knowledge post KB counseling by lecture (p=0,00) and counseling by video (p=0,00). There is not significant difference of knowledge increment both counseling group by lecture and counseling group by video (p=0,71). There are significant decrement of 7 days post counseling memory by lecture (p=0,00) and counseling memory by video(p=0,00). There is a significant difference in memory retention of counseling group by lecture which is lower than memory retention of counseling group by video(p=0,00).. Conclusions: memory retention of counseling group by lecture which is lower than memory retention of counseling group by video. Keyword: Lecture, Video, Memory Retention
