520 |a Background : Colonoscopy is still the primary detection tool to determine the location of colorectal cancer. Other non-invasive markers may be required to help determine the location of colorectal cancer. Levels of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and albumin are reported to vary among patients with colorectal cancer, that they are supposed to represent location and prognosis. Aim : To determine the correlation between the levels of CEA and serum albumin with the location of colorectal cancer. Methods : This was an observational study using cross sectional design. Data were taken from medical records of patients with colorectal cancer in Dr. Kariadi hospital from January 2012 until December 2015. A total of 63 patients were selected as subjects. CEA and albumin levels were taken from the results of laboratory tests of blood before treatment. Location of the tumor was assesed based on colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy. Spearman correlation was used for statistical analysis. Results : Subjects had a mean age of 50,50 ± 13,69 years, with male account for 49,2% and woman for 50,8%. 55,6% of subjects have elevated levels of CEA (> 5 ng / mL). 52,4% of subjects have low albumin levels, 46.0% had normal levels of albumin, and 1.6% had high levels of albumin. The most common tumor location was in rectum (77.8%). CEA levels were not associated with tumor location (rs = -0.019). Levels of albumin were not associated with tumor location (rs = -0.060). CEA and albumin levels were not associated with tumor location (rs = -0.048). Conclusions : There was no correlation between CEA and albumin levels with the location of colorectal cancer.
