Description
Summary:Background : Glaucoma is the second largest cause of blindness after cataract. The blindness caused by glaucoma is irreversible. Behavioral and public awareness has an important role in the prevention of blindness caused by glaucoma and helping eye health workers in making early detection and treatment. Aim : This study aims to determine the relationship between the respondent's knowledge level about glaucoma with their behavior toward glaucoma and the awareness in doing check-up regularly to the eye health services. Methods : This research is using an analytic observasional with cross sectional study approach. First, the data were collected through interviews with a guide list of closed questions and afterwards the interviewers proceeded with in-depth interviews with a guide list of open questions. Statistical tests performed are Shapiro Wilk normality test and Spearman correlation test. Result : There is a significant relationship between knowledge and behavior ( p = 0.003 ). The statistical relation strength between variables is in the medium category ( 0.4 - < 0.6 ), and the direction of the correlation is positive, which means the dependent variables increased when independent variable increased. Conclusion : There is a relationship between the respondent's knowledge level about glaucoma with their behavior toward glaucoma and the awareness in doing check-up regularly to the eye health services.
