Summary:The practice of spiritual care in patient is not provided optimaly because there are still many barriers, such as nurses lack of competence and knowledge about spiritual care and also the nursing institution education that do not pay attention about the importance of spiritual education in nursing curriculum. The purpose of this research is to describe nursing student perseption about spiritual care. Design of this research was descriptive quantitative survey. The number of sample was 166 nursing students using consecutive sampling. Data was collected using Spiritual Care Giving Scale (SCGS) questionnaires. The result showed that most respondent (53%) had low perception about spiritual care. Their perception about spiritual care attitude was the lowest (5,05 ± 0,81) followed by defining spiritual care (5,06 ± 0,80), attributes for spiritual care (5,10 ± 0,70), spiritual care value (5,12 ± 0,76), and spirituality perspectives (5,21 ± 0,75). Respondents were fully aware that the spiritual care was very important for the patients, but the hospital culture still stood up as an obstacle for the nursing students in providing spiritual care for the patients. The conclusion of this research indicate that most of nursing students have low perception about spiritual care, the study recommends the importace of nursing institution education to introduce the concept of spiritual care. Also, it needs support from professionals to demonstrate and make spiritual care as one of the important concepts in the nursing curriculum.
