Waste picker elderlies can be found at 02.00 until 05.00 a.m.. The income they get per day is uncertain. This research applied a qualitative approach, and the research type is descriptive research. The research location was in Karangrejo Village, Banyuwangi Regency. Data were collected by non-participant observation method. Data analysis applied data collection, data transcription, coding, data categorization, temporary conclusion, triangulation, final conclusion drawing. For data validity, triangulation of source was used. The results showed that the effort made by elderlies to meet the family needs was that they did their main job as watse waste pickers. In addition, they also made efforts to meet the needs of his family by (1) diversifying the job into two, namely as scavengers and other jobs, for example, as bird repellents in the fields and helping neighbors; (2) optimizing product/value added, that is, the elderlies sold the garbage to special places; (3) building social network i.e. the elderlies built trust in order that they could borrow money from neighbors and relatives.
