520 |a This study was aimed to investigate the use of picture book in teaching writing narrative text for junior high school students. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research design in which one class of grade eight students in one junior high school in Bandung was chosen as the research site. Classroom observation, interview, and documents were used as the instruments to collect the data. The findings revealed that the use of picture book facilitated teacher and students to carry out all the strategies in teaching writing narrative text proposed by Lynch-Brown and Tomlinson (1999) and Gonzalez (2010). The results also showed that the use of picture book made the teaching and learning activities of writing narrative text more interesting and enjoyable and helped students to understand the story easily. Moreover, picture book could serve as model text for writing narrative text within Genre-Based Approach. Through reading of selected picture book, students can also develop their creativity and imagination that help them construct ideas in narrative writing. Based on the findings, it is recommended that selecting appropriate picture book and developing appropriate classroom instruction may contribute to effective teaching strategies in using picture book to help junior high school students write narrative text.----------Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan buku bergambar dalam pengajaran menulis teks naratif untuk siswa sekolah menengah pertama. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dimana satu kelas siswa kelas delapan di satu SMP di Bandung dipilih sebagai tempat penelitian. Pengamatan kelas, wawancara, dan dokumen digunakan sebagai instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data. Temuan penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa penggunaan buku bergambar memudahkan guru dan siswa untuk melaksanakan semua strategi dalam pengajaran penulisan teks naratif yang dianjurkan oleh Lynch-Brown dan Tomlinson (1999) dan Gonzalez (2010). Hasilnya juga menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan buku bergambar membuat kegiatan belajar mengajar menulis teks naratif lebih menarik dan menyenangkan dan membantu siswa untuk memahami ceritanya dengan mudah. Selain itu, buku bergambar bisa dijadikan teks model untuk menulis teks naratif dalam Genre-Based Approach. Dengan membaca buku bergambar yang dipilih, siswa juga dapat mengembangkan kreativitas dan imajinasi mereka yang membantu mereka menyusun gagasan dalam penulisan naratif. Berdasarkan temuan, disarankan bahwa memilih buku bergambar yang sesuai dan mengembangkan instruksi kelas yang sesuai dapat berkontribusi pada strategi pengajaran yang efektif dalam menggunakan buku bergambar untuk membantu siswa sekolah menengah pertama menulis teks naratif.
