Description
Peningkatan habits of mind mahasiswa kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol. Model perkuliahan berbasis scaffolding efektif untuk meningkatkan habits of mind mahasiswa. This study aims to develop a scaffolding-based model of Wave and Optics course to improve pre-service teachers' concept mastery and habits of mind. The method used in this research was mixed method in the form of embedded experimental model. The procedures of this study consisted of preparatory stage, implementation stage, and interpretation stage. The preparatory stage covered several activities including literature study, field study, model designing and instrument construction, and pilot study. The implementation stage consisted of the implementation of course model obtaining qualitative and quantitative data. The interpretation stage was realized through the discussion of the research results. This study was conducted in Physics Education Study Program as one of Teacher Education Services known as LPTK in Banjarmasin academic year 2015/2016. The subjects of this study were 96 students taking Wave and Optics course program in which 46 students were assigned to be in the experimental class and 50 students were included in the control class. The samples were selected using cluster random sampling technique. The data collections were conducted through test, questionnaires, observation sheet, and interview. The data analysis techniques comprised of achievement percentage, N Gain calculation, statistic analysis test, and effect size calculation. Based on the development of scaffolding-based course model of Wave and Optics, the course syntax consisting of orientation phase, training, task support, conceptual and procedural scaffolding, and metacognition and strategy scaffolding was discovered. The application of this course model indicated that almost all activities were well-implemented. The improvement of concept theory of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. The scaffolding-based course model was very effective to improve pre-service teachers' mastery concept. The improvement of habits of mind in the experimental class was higher than that of in the control class. The scaffolding-based was effective to improve pre-service teachers' habits of mind. There was strong correlation between pre-service teachers' concept mastery and habits of mind. Concerning with the perceptions, the students gave positive opinions on the implementation of this scaffolding-based course model of Wave and Optic. The strong point of this study was that it helps students to acquire concept knowledge and to train their thinking habits. However, further research is needed to investigate the metacognitive knowledge and self-system
