Berpikir kritis ini merupakan salah satu kompetensi dari 4 kompetensi yang harus dimiliki oleh peserta didik pada abad 21 ini. Untuk itu maka dilakukanlah penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan metode Problem Based Leraning (PBL) dan Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik. Subyek penelitian adalah peserta didik pada kelas X IPS di SMAN 17 Garut tahun pelajaran 2017/2018. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuasi eksperimen, yang menggunakan desain eksperimen counterbalance, sedangkan analisis data yang digunakan adalah uji statistik parametrik yang menggunakan aplikasi SPSS versi 24. Adapun hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 1) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik pada kelas yang menerapkan metode PBL dengan peserta didik pada kelas yang menerapkan metode IBL, terbukti dan teruji bahwa metode PBL lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan metode IBL, 2) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik pada kelas yang menerapkan metode IBL dengan peserta didik pada kelas yang menerapkan metode ceramah bervariasi, terbukti dan teruji bahwa metode IBL lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan metode ceramah bervariasi 3) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik pada kelas yang menerapkan metode PBL dengan peserta didik pada kelas yang menerapkan metode metode ceramah bervariasi, terbukti dan teruji metode PBL lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan metode ceramah bervariasi. Kata kunci : Problem Based Learning (PBL), Inquiry Based Learning (IBL), Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis This study is motivated by the demands of 21st century education that integrates knowledge, skills and attitudes as well as the mastery of ICT which is elaborated in various learning methods covering 21st century capability that is 4C. This critical thinking is one of the competencies of the 4 competencies that must be possessed by learners in the 21st century. For that purpose, it is conducted research that aims to know the influence of the use of Problem Based Leraning (PBL) and Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) methods to the critical thinking ability of learners. The subjects of the study were students in class X IPS at SMAN 17 Garut in the academic year 2017/2018. This research is quasi experimental research, which uses counterbalance experimental design, while the data analysis used is statistical parametric test using SPSS version 24 application. The result of research shows that 1) there is a difference of students' critical thinking ability in the class that apply the PBL method with students in the class that apply the IBL method, proven and tested that the PBL method is more effective than the IBL method; 2) there is difference of critical thinking ability of the students in the class applying the IBL method with learners in the classroom that applies varied, proven and tested lecture methods that the IBL method is more effective than the lecture method varies 3) there is a difference of students' critical thinking ability in the class applying the PBL method with the learner to the class applying the method Lecture methods are varied, proven and tested PBL methods are more effective than with varied lecture methods.
