The researcher treated them in teamwork. The research design is quasi experimental research. The researcher found that the data were not normally distributed, but homogeny, so she analyzed them by using Mann Whitney statistics. They got very different average scores. The average scores of the experimental class are 64.20 in pretest, 70.00 in post test and 5.80 in gain score. The control class is 64.08 in pretest, 66.00 in protest and 1.92 in gain score. The score increase of practical writing experimental class (5.80) is higher than the control class (1.92). The tests were supported by the questionnaire that 64% students were very interested in STAD. It proved that the STAD results of teaching writing are more effective and different from the traditional way.
